Alpaca
Alpaca:
Compared to sheep's wool, alpaca is warmer, finer and has a lower fat content. The processing of the fine hair, such as carding, spinning and weaving, is very similar to the finishing of wool.
Alpacas have to be shorn every year, and the fine hair is obtained during this shearing process. As is usual for fine hair, the alpaca fiber is hollow and therefore particularly heat-insulating and lightweight. The fine hair is also temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking and therefore self-cleaning.
As a result, alpaca wool is often used to make soft plaids, blankets, scarves etc.
